Chief Information Officer

PURPOSE:  As a member of the organization’s Executive Management Team, this position is responsible for all company-wide information system activities including all business applications, telecommunications systems and ecommerce applications for the company;  responsible for defining and implementing technical strategy to support all aspects of the business, driving business process improvement across the organizations, and directing day-to-day information systems operations effectively and efficiently.  As a business leader for San Francisco Opera, forges ties between current and future business needs and ensures a strong and scalable systems architecture for the company. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field from an accredited college or university highly desired with a master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive professional experience managing or directing an information systems environment that includes software application management, ERP implementations, and ecommerce application
  • Experience leading a team in a financially-constrained environment
  • Experience with implementing and managing a PCI DSS v3.0 or later compliance program
  • Experience managing heterogeneous cloud services and SSO
  • Strong IT generalist skills are necessary
  • Hands-on knowledge of the Microsoft technology stack, including desktop, server, Azure, and Office 365
  • Ability to prioritize the needs of a complex organization
  • Track record in leading strategic initiatives and providing outstanding business results
  • Proven ability to define strategy and lead organizations from vision to implementation
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder
  • A track record of successful business application implementation
  • Proven ability to build, mentor and inspire a team of IT professionals
  • A working knowledge of trends in the information systems industry, including information security and marketing technologies

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops and oversees a strategic comprehensive information systems plan reflecting the organization’s mission, values, and strategic business plans
  • Maintains the organization’s awareness of developments in information technology; directs the acquisition and implementation of new equipment and new software for the formulation of both long- and short-term plans to meet the business needs
  • Develops and recommends a fiscally sound department budget based on department goals and organizational needs
  • Monitors and manages departmental expenditures, continuously seeking opportunities to reduce or eliminate unnecessary expenditures and find cost-effective ways to do business
  • Develops and presents project roadmap and associated capital and operating budgets to Executive Staff, General Director, or other interested parties such as the Board
  • Develops departmental and organizational policies and procedures, data security standards, methods of operation, and data processing schedules
  • Establishes and oversees daily operations of all business systems, and regularly evaluates and monitors systems applications for effectiveness and future viability
  • Directs the overall maintenance and use of all information technology systems, including network equipment, servers, telecommunications equipment, personal computers, and peripherals
  • Directs all technical and change management efforts leading to the implementation of software applications and hardware implementations
  • On an on-going basis and reflecting organization priorities, organizes and provides technical and change management direction and support to major information technology projects including all phases of implementation including business case development, process mapping, execution, and ongoing support for successful usage
  • Directs and manages all changes to current and future hardware and software usage
  • Develops and manages an information systems disaster recovery and business continuity plan, including routine backup of key data
  • Consistently and successfully manages relationships with third party vendors

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Reports regularly to management and Board on information systems plans, projects, department performance and other related matters
  • Provides organizational leadership and works together with other members of Executive Staff to model exemplary behavior both within and outside the organization
  • Hires and manages competent staff members and continually motivates staff in order to provide excellent customer service across the company
  • As necessary, coordinates with the General Director and members of Development staff in identifying resources and/or gifts from external parties for technology-related programs
  • Continually motivates staff and promotes and encourages professional development for staff members within departmental budgetary parameters
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
