2018–19 Season: Matteo in Arabella
Performing for the first time at San Francisco Opera in a role debut as Matteo, tenor Daniel Johansson began last season with Don José in Carmen at Dresden’s Sächsische Staatsoper, followed by Siegmund in Die Walküre at Theater an der Wien, Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca at Norwegian National Opera and Stockholm’s Royal Swedish Opera, Count Loris in Giordani’s Fedora at Royal Swedish Opera, and Don José at the Bregenz Festival. Johansson also recently performed his first Lohengrin at the Musiktheater in Essen. In 2007, he won the Gösta Winbergh Award, and in 2012 he was awarded first prize at the Wilhelm Stenhammar Competition. In June 2018, Johansson was named Court singer by the Swedish king. Upcoming engagements include Lohengrin and the title role of Les Contes d’Hoffmann at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Don José in a new production of Carmen at Royal Swedish Opera, and Apollo/Dionysus in Manfred Trojahn’s Orest at Vienna State Opera.
