2017–18 Season: Conductor of Manon

A longtime champion of the music of Jules Massenet and other French operatic repertoire, conductor Patrick Fournillier made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2011 with Cyrano de Bergerac and led the Company’s 2013 production of Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Ever since he was awarded the Salzburg First International Prize in 1982, Fournillier has enjoyed continuous and successful collaborations with the most important opera houses of Europe and North America.  In recent seasons he has been on the podium of the Teatro Regio di Torino for Don Quichotte; Opéra des Flandres for Werthe; Deutsche Oper Berlin for Lucia di Lammermoor, Manon, and Semiramide; the Metropolitan Opera for Les Contes d’Hoffmann; Den Norske Opera for Les dialogues des Carmélites and Carmen; Seattle Opera for Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci; and Los Angeles Opera for Thaïs. He is a frequent guest at the Massenet Festival, where he led Cléopâtre, the oratorio La Vierge, Esclarmonde, Grisélidis, Panurge, Le Cid, Thaïs, and Gounod's Sapho.
