Soprano Deborah Voigt Cancels Sunday, May 8 Performance of Voigt Lessons at the Wilsey Center's Taube Atrium Theater

Voigt Lessons Performances Will Be Rescheduled in June 2016

SAN FRANCISCO (May 7, 2016) — San Francisco Opera announces that soprano Deborah Voigt is forced to cancel the Sunday, May 8 performance of her eponymous show Voigt Lessons, presented by SF Opera Lab at the Wilsey Center’s Taube Atrium Theater. Ms. Voigt, who also had to cancel the May 6 opening performance due to experiencing a ruptured eardrum several days ago, is still recovering and unable to perform. The two cancelled performances of Voigt Lessons will be rescheduled in June 2016; details will be announced at a later date.

The San Francisco Opera Box Office staff will be in communication with all ticket holders for Sunday’s sold-out show asking them to hold on to their tickets for the rescheduled June performances or receive a ticket refund. The Box Office can be reached at (415) 864-3330 during business hours. Refunds for pre-ordered food and drinks will be processed immediately.

Voigt Lessons, performed by Deborah Voigt and pianist Kevin Stites, is Voigt’s intimate and acclaimed one-woman show weaving songs and arias, ranging from music by the Carpenters to Strauss, into a vivid and moving account of the superstar soprano’s life and career. Voigt’s relationship with San Francisco Opera started in 1985 when she received professional training as a member of the prestigious Merola Opera Program, which led to her participation in the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellowship Program for the following two years. Before she rose to international fame, Bay Area audiences first heard her as an emerging artist in the Company’s Don Carlos, Jenůfa, Macbeth, Nabucco and Die Zauberflöte. She later returned to perform leading roles in Un Ballo in Maschera, Tannhäuser, Die Walküre, Ariadne auf Naxos and, most recently, in 2010 in the title role of La Fanciulla del West.
